this is the asnwer...

lil asaf.. you all can see the pitty of our love to culture and knowledge..
many of you pointed int he right direction!! this is an alarming fact! Adorra got it right and exact :)

the problem is, i would not use this building for a store "MAKHZAN"!! i don't know why and how we can call this a library.. which should host and before that REPRESENT a heritage and culture.. but.. i hope that renovation of our public library system would take the right direction.. and be restored in SMALL STEPS.. much better than LARGE ones with no care to be given to them later..

just out of curiosity.. here are few pics of some respected public libraries out there...

enjooooy them please.. :/

..New York Public Library..

..Los Angeles Public Library..

..Chicago Public Library..

الله يرزقنا شي نفس الصور

Maybe everyone in Kuwait is using the Internet and Wikipedia for their research, google for their searches, and Amazon for their book purchases. We in Kuwait are too advanced for old style dead wood books, we are more into light speed next generation Internet knowledge zapping.

Good post, BTW.

what to say, first we have to engourage our children to read to have respective libraries. The problem in Kuwait is that the people in charge of the country are thinking in another direction (money) lots of it, other issues, forget it. I was talking to my mother yesterday, and pointed that in KG and reseption classes there are no arabic books to teach the alphabatics, I had to buy it for my son.
Imagine no academic in the education ministry ever though of having books for KG's? that is because government KG's only sing and dance!!

The small local public libraries are awful like the Aydaliyah one you showed.

However, there are some newer ones like in Grain and in Yarmouk that have better facilities.

Don't forget the National Library of Kuwait المكتبة الوطنية
and the new Arab poetry library in the City.

welcome to my small blog :) and thanks for the comment :)

i do use the Internet and Wikipedia for small searches and quick reviews of many matters, but you always need to have a community library for the people to go and read real books and research older news and reviews and articles of reasearched subjects. it is a never ending need for the librarys and the atmosphere they SHOULD offer for all the genereations what ever electronic meadia you have. the internet is still missing a lot of resources to be free of charge.. and many places you have to have a subscribtion and or you have to order a book or an article or a scientific/academic research.

those are some of the services to be offered by a community library.

and thanks again for ur comment :)

bloo

welcome to my world here :) and thanks for the comment.. i parked my car infron of the library.. and wala i couldn't move untill i took the picture to write something about it and see how other peopole think about the sybject too.. thanks for ur views.

akhaaf the building became really depreciated because of ur continuous going there and hiting and kicking the doors ;)

no no.. just kidding ;) ;)

inshala we get a new and big overhaul on all the librarys.. mo bas from the outside.. but MOST importanlty of what they have and offer in the inside :)

العين الساهرة

u said the right things.. it is true.. and we hope that the first road to wealth should and have to start with the best knowledge and real research.. which always has to start from libraries and their services.

Jewaira

welcome to my blog :)

i haven't seen yarkouk and grain.. but they have to have NEW facilities.. this is the minimum.. but what is more important.. is what is inside.. this is MORE important walah than the looks..

i agree that we have some new libraries.. but i am not talking about specialized libraries like al babtain.. good for him that he did this library.. and wish for more people to do just like that wala..

and for maktabat al kuwait al wa6aniya.. madri what services they have to offer.. ma7ad yadri shino 3indohom.. aham shay mokanhom is in old soog el thahab? right? i know that el majlis el wa6ani lil thaqafa is building a big national library on the sea side in kuwait city.. i wish this would be a super project for what is intended!

7ayach allah in my blog :)

ameeen .. inshala :)

Fuzzy

fuzzy.. as i have mentioned.. i think #1 is having a good building that TELLS how important the library is .. #2 is what facilities has to be offered is even more important

maktabat jam3at likuwait in shwaikh is a SUPER building.. with little scientific and academic RESEARCH facilities that can be offered.. u still hav to search by cards in some areas.. and u can't search local news and events locally is u wana do a real local research.. just go to NYPOST.com and u can search online for the article u want since the year 1880!! eeeeeeeeeeeeehhh... this is why we are world#3.. but don't lose the hope..

3abeer

welcome welcome 3abeer :)

there are certain things in the society and life that aren't cash cows... roads, plants, free health, and free education.. libraries are the same.. they are for a noble reason and "a not known to many" needed reasons too. and they shouldn't be treated this way.. that's what i feel.. but thanks for ur comment ;)
